The combination or the "marriage" of two or more doors in a, is common in Heraldry. The purposes served in such a composition descendant is either the union of two families through marriage, whether the reference to the origin of the institution, or the display of properties, securities or property of the entity.
Separated into four bears on the left the royal coat of arms of Denmark as Prince of Denmark (home ground). Top right bears the Greek flag as a prince of Greece (from his father Prince descendant Andrew, son of King George I). Bottom left bearing the colors of Battenberg (from his mother Princess Alice, daughter of Prince Louis of Battenberg.) descendant Finally the bottom right we have the shield of Edinburgh (as Duke of Edinburgh, Title attributed to it after his marriage to Queen Elizabeth II 'UK). So we have a coat of arms across the generational carrier path and other securities held.
Dividing the shield in half and placing in each part and one of the ports. Dividing into four day shield and presenting "crossed" the two ports. Placing the center of a shield the second shield smaller.
Finally, another way combination, is to divide the coats in the middle and so put them right in the shield. In this case however there is a possibility to forge the two doors, as in the first example below, wherein when the compound showed something completely different from the original escutcheons.
