This task was designed to show the experimenter's credibility or his lack.

Only 34 percent of infants whose testers in the first task proved unreliable followed the strange task. This shows that infants will imitate behavior of trusted adults. In contrast, the same behavior of untrusted adult is interpreted as irrational or inefficient, therefore not worth imitating.
